Guru Nanak Hospital where a huge fire broke out yesterday afternoon due to oil leakage from an old power transformer and due to which a large part of the hospital was without power supply, within 24 hours two 500 KV The new transformers have arrived and the work of installing them has begun.

          Arriving here today to review the work, the Cabinet Minister for Power and Public Works Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO said that he had yesterday briefed the Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann about the incident as per the suggestion made by the engineers to meet the electrical needs of the hospital. 

He had proposed to install two dry transformers of 500 KV, which he accepted immediately and these transformers reached the hospital this morning. He said that it was the largest hospital in Punjab and the number of doctors, nurses, para medical staff and inpatients was more than 10,000 at any given time, so we could not in any way jeopardize our capital. We can only sit without electricity. He said that yesterday the department had made temporary arrangements and started the supply and this morning these transformers have arrived and the installation work has been started. He said that there was no fault in the cause of the fire at the moment but it was found out that the said transformers were made in the 70’s and due to old age it caused leakage which caused the fire. He said that the transformers being installed now were one without oil and the other would be installed away from the hospital building so that there would be no danger of fire at all. Principal Rajiv Devgan, SE Vikas Gupta, SDO Rajiv Sharma and other officials were present on the occasion.
