Gurmat Samagam organized by SGPC in memory of martyrs of Gurdwara Sri Paonta Sahib Sake

A gurmat sanagam was organised at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall within Golden Temple complex here on Sunday by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in memory of the Sikhs who were martyred during the May 22, 1964 massacre to liberate the management of Gurdwara Sri Paonta Sahib from the evil mahants.

In this connection, after the bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, the jatha of Bhai Satnam Singh Kuharka, ragi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, performed Gurbani Kirtan and the Holy Hukamnama was heard by Giani Gurminder Singh, Granthi Singh Sahib of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the SGPC, said that many incidents took place before the independence of the country in which innumerable Sikhs were martyred. At that time the British ruled and the Sikhs endured that persecution with a laugh, but the Sikhs will never forget the pain of the massacre that took place in independent India.
A similar tragedy took place at Gurdwara Sri Paonta Sahib in which 11 Singhs of Misl Shaheed Tarna Dal were martyred.
He said that the Sikh community would always remember the sacrifices of the Singhs belonging to the Tarna Dal Hariya Velan for the liberation of the holy shrine.
On this occasion Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib lauded the Panthic services rendered by Baba Nihal Singh Harian Velan, Chief of Tarna Dal.
He said that Baba Nihal Singh Harian Velan was also seriously injured in the incident which took place at the time of liberation of Gurdwara Sri Paonta Sahib from the control of mahants.
He said that it was our responsibility to remember the martyrs and nations which forget their martyrs would end their existence. On this occasion Baba Nihal Singh Harian Velanwala, Chief of Misl Shaheed Tarna Dal shared the events that took place during the massacre.
He thanked the Shiromani Committee for the annual function held in memory of the martyrs and urged all the organizations of the Sikh Panth to work together for the betterment of the Panth. On this occasion Baba Nihal Singh was honored by the Shiromani Committee with green vines.
On this occasion Shiromani Akali Dal Interim Committee Member Mr. Harjap Singh Sultanwind, Member Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, Bhai Manjit Singh, Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Bhai Ram Singh, S. Jarnail Singh Kartarpur, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, Baba Narang Singh, Bibi Jaspal Kaur, Additional Secretary Dr. Paramjit Singh Saroya, S. Partap Singh, S. Bijai Singh, Deputy Secretary. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, S. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, S. Harjit Singh Lalu Ghuman, S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, S. Harjinder Singh Kaironwal, S. Nirvel Singh, Manager of Sri Darbar Sahib. Sulukhan Singh Bhangali, Former Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, Superintendent Malkit Singh Bahirwal and a large number of sangats were present.
